The Gasman (2005, 7.7MB, 10 sec)
This is a 10 second animation experiment I put together the other night using AE (for the first time). The Gasman character and sky were were created in PS. I found the backdrop via google image search (keywords: bombed out) and mucked with it a bit using PS. Sound effects came from some tedious Googling and Altavista audio searching… who knew something simple like rain sounds would take so long to find. Everything was composited and animated in AE.

When taxi driver Ashley Gibbins called the helpline of UK isp NTL hoping to have broadband installed he was pleseantly put on infinate hold. While on hold he some how (and the Guardian doesn’t say how) managed to hack the phone tree and change NTL’s hold message… The Guardian reports!

Websites Invade Your Privacy to Charge You More
CNN has a report detailing an unsavory practice euphemistically called “price customization.” In short, websites examine the web data you automatically shed (cookies, IP address, etc.) so they can charge you a different price for a product or service depending on your “identity” and shopping habits.

The article cites “a retail photography Web site charging different prices for the same digital cameras and related equipment depending on whether shoppers had previously visited popular price-comparison sites” and “one [Amazon] buyer [who] deleted the electronic tags on his computer that identified him as a regular customer and noticed the price of a DVD changed from $26.24 to $22.74.”

Lastnight we watched a Korean suspence/thriller/horror called Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003) and a 70’s Cosby/Poitier comedy classic, Let’s Do It Again (1975). (links go to imdb.com)

Panoramic Jitters (2005, 2.81MB, 11 sec loop)
Further experiments in shooting with the camera on it’s side. I shot this about a week ago just before 7am when the morning light pours through the south facing windows of our house. Standing on an ancient metal table fan (think ottoman with blades) I shot a very rough grid of the room in several second bursts. 9 clips and their audio make up the final piece.
